Showworks Youth Theatre Company in North Ayrshire has once again proven its prowess in bringing together a diverse group of young performers for its summer pantomime extravaganza, 'Treasure Island'. The challenge of managing 140 kids on stage at the same time is no small feat, but Showworks has mastered the art of making every performer shine. The show was dedicated to the late Peggy Inglis, a beloved figure in the Largs theatre scene, who would have undoubtedly been proud of the spectacle. The production showcased the talents of children aged 3 to 18, with a clever format that allowed every class and performer their moment to shine. The atmosphere was electric, with proud parents, grandparents, and siblings filling the Barrfields Pavilion, creating a noisy and enthusiastic crowd. The main characters were played with panache, with Sofia Hussain, Zara Coult, and Ava Stokes as the glamorous mermaids, and Aimee Hitter and Isla Baker as the silly siblings, Michelle and Jimmy Hawkins. The villainous Long John Silver, played by Ruby Gibson, brought humor to the role, and the perky Ralph Prince played Percy the Parrot. The production was a testament to the hard work of the team behind it, including director Ryan Moir and sidekick Ruairidh Forde, Associate Director Angie Moir, choreographer Lisa Kennedy, and a dedicated team of assistants. The script, filled with humor and musical numbers, was a joy to watch, with a personal favorite line being the sword fight between the Skipper and Long John Silver, interrupted by the cry, 'Put down your swords, do you think you're in Stevenston!'. Showworks is not resting on its laurels, with plans for a summer school based on 'Annie'. The future looks bright for this talented group, and the sun just keeps shining on their endeavors.
